Protect Plus works on two fronts at once. First, it acts as a sequestering agent: it chemically binds to the dissolved metals and minerals in your water and holds them suspended and inactivated, so they can't come out of solution to stain your shell or harden into scale on your heater and plumbing. They stay locked up and harmless.

Second, its flocculating agent gathers up the fine suspended debris that dulls water, clumping those particles together so your filter can capture and remove them. That's why the water doesn't just stay protected — it visibly brightens and clears. Because it needs time to react fully with the water, it's important to let it circulate for about an hour before you add anything else.

Pro Tip: If you're on well water or have known metal issues, double the start-up dose. Sirona's directions call for 4 fluid ounces per 250 gallons instead of the usual 2 when metal content is high — well water in particular can be loaded with iron that will stain a shell fast. It costs a little more up front and saves you from staining that's very hard to undo.

1. When the spa is initially filled, add 2 fluid ounces per 250 gallons of water directly into the spa.
2. If metal content is high, add 4 fluid ounces per 250 gallons instead.
3. Filter and circulate the water for at least one hour before adding any other chemicals, so Protect Plus has time to react completely.

Weekly Maintenance

1. After the initial fill, add 1 fluid ounce per 250 gallons of spa water weekly.
