Description

Hot Tub Serum Turbo pH DownĀ is a fast-actingĀ pH decreaserĀ that brings high, alkaline spa water back into the safe range. This granularĀ sodium bisulfateĀ formula lowers pH quickly and, at the same time, brings downĀ total alkalinity.

High pH causes a cascade of problems that are easy to miss until they add up. When pH climbsĀ above 7.6, the water turnsĀ cloudy,Ā scaleĀ starts forming on surfaces and inside your heater and plumbing, and yourĀ sanitizer loses efficiency — chlorine and bromine work much harder at high pH. Left unchecked, you get dull water, scale buildup, shorter filter runs, and skin and eye irritation. Since a spa's pH tends toĀ drift upward over time, a pH decreaser is a must-have on the shelf.

Turbo pH Down reverses that drift. Bring pH back into theĀ 7.2–7.6Ā range and the water clears, scale stops forming, and your sanitizer gets back to full strength.

Pro Tip:Ā Turbo pH Down lowers total alkalinity along with pH. That's useful when both are high, but if your pH is high while alkalinity is already in range, add it in small amounts and retest — you don't want to drop alkalinity out of range chasing pH. When both are too high, this is the efficient one-product fix for the pair.

Hot Tub SerumĀ®

What's in the Box
  • 1 x Hot Tub Serum Turbo pH DownĀ 1.5lbs resealable container, granular)
Key Features
  • Lowers high pH — brings alkaline water back into the safe 7.2–7.6 range
  • Prevents scale and cloudy water — stops the buildup and haze that high pH causes
  • Protects equipment — guards your heater, plumbing, and surfaces from scale and corrosion
  • Boosts sanitizer efficiency — chlorine and bromine work far better at proper pH
  • Also lowers total alkalinity — sodium bisulfate adjusts both, ideal when both run high
  • Fast-acting granular — dissolves quickly and gets pH back in range
How It Works

The active ingredient,Ā sodium bisulfate, is a dry acid. When it dissolves it releases hydrogen ions thatĀ neutralize the excess alkalinityĀ driving pH up — lowering both theĀ pH and the total alkalinityĀ of the water. Aim for a pH ofĀ 7.2–7.6, the range where water is clear, non-scaling, comfortable, and where your sanitizer performs at its best.

It's the mirror image of Turbo pH Up: where pH Up (soda ash)Ā raisesĀ pH, Turbo pH Down (sodium bisulfate)Ā lowersĀ it. Because pH naturally creeps upward in a working spa, pH Down is the one you'll typically reach for more often.

Pro Tip: Broadcast it with the pump running and never add it to a spa with the circulation off. Sodium bisulfate is a concentrated dry acid, and a pile of it sitting on the acrylic shell can etch or bleach a spot. Spreading it across moving water lets it dissolve and disperse instantly, protecting the surface.

Directions for Use

Never mix different products together in the same container. Add this product directly to the water with the circulation running. Test spa water frequently and adjust as needed, aiming for a pH ofĀ 7.2–7.6. Always follow the container label for exact dosing.

  1. Test the water to confirm pH is above range.
  2. Turn on the circulation system.
  3. Broadcast the recommended amount of Turbo pH Down evenly over the surface of the water (see the label for the dose based on your spa's gallons and current pH).
  4. Circulate 15–30 minutes and retest pH.Ā If pH is still above 7.6, repeat until it sits between 7.2 and 7.6.

Pro Tip: Make pH adjustments before you shock, not after. Your sanitizer and shock work best in the 7.2–7.6 window, so getting pH right first means the chlorine or bromine you add next is far more effective — and you avoid wasting product fighting out-of-range water.

Compatibility

Hot Tub Serum Turbo pH Down isĀ compatible with all sanitizer systems — chlorine, bromine, salt, mineral, and ozone. As a balancer, it's part of the foundation you maintain alongside your sanitizer.

It's the counterpart toĀ Turbo pH UpĀ (which raises pH when it drops too low) and works alongside anĀ alkalinity increaserĀ and a reliableĀ test kit or strips. Balance pH and total alkalinityĀ beforeĀ adding sanitizing and shock products. Never mix Turbo pH Down with other chemicals in the same container — always add it directly to the spa water.

Hot Tub SerumĀ® Brand FAQs

What is Hot Tub Serum, and how is it different from other spa chemicals?

Hot Tub Serum is an EPA-registered water care line built around one idea most spa chemicals ignore: cleaning and protecting the inside of your spa's plumbing. Its products prevent and remove biofilm— the bacterial sludge that builds up in pipes and jets and keeps re-contaminating your water. Made by Serum Watercare, the line is registered with the EPA in all 50 states.

Does Hot Tub Serum replace my sanitizer?

No. Hot Tub Serum works along side your sanitizer, not instead of it. You still need to maintain an EPA-approved sanitizer (chlorine, bromine, salt, or a mineral system) at proper levels. Serum keeps your plumbing clean and makes your sanitizer more effective — so most owners end up using less of their other chemicals — but a sanitizer is always required.

What is biofilm, and why does it matter in a hot tub?

Biofilm is a slimy layer of bacteria that forms inside spa plumbing where you can't see or reach it. It protects the bacteria within it from your sanitizer, which is why an untreated spa can stay cloudy, smelly, or sanitizer-hungry no matter how carefully you dose. Because it hides in the pipes, it keeps coming back until it's addressed at the source — which is exactly what Hot Tub Serum targets.

How does the Hot Tub Serum Total Clean System work?

It's a simple two-step regimen. First,Total Cleanse is added before a drain-and-refill to purge existing biofilm and gunk out of the plumbing. Then, once the spa is refilled,Total Maintenance is added weekly to keep that biofilm from ever coming back. Purge to clean, maintain to keep it clean.

Is Hot Tub Serum compatible with my sanitizer system?

Yes. Hot Tub Serum is compatible with all sanitizing systems — chlorine, bromine, salt water generators, biguanide, and mineral systems such as The FrogĀ®, @easeĀ®, and Nature2Ā®. It's also unaffected by pH swings, cyanuric acid, and common oxidizers, so it keeps working even when your water chemistry drifts.

Is there a warranty benefit to using Hot Tub Serum?

Serum Watercare offers a Lifetime Jet Warranty for owners who use Total Maintenance weekly through an authorized dealer's auto-ship program. Because jet failure is often caused by scale and water-chemistry buildup that Serum helps prevent, the program covers replacement of removable jet inserts that fail due to water chemistry. Ask us about enrolling.

About Hot Tub SerumĀ®

Hot Tub Serum is a water care brand fromĀ Serum Watercare, built on a simple insight the rest of the industry overlooked: the biggest threat to clean hot tub water isn't in the water you can see — it's theĀ biofilm hidden inside your plumbing. Where conventional chemicals only treat the water in the shell, Serum's EPA-registered formulas clean and protect the pipes, jets, and internal surfaces where bacterial sludge takes hold.

The result is theĀ Total Clean System: a purge product (Total Cleanse) that scrubs existing biofilm out of the plumbing before a drain-and-refill, and a weekly maintenance product (Total Maintenance) that keeps it from ever returning. Registered with the EPA inĀ all 50 statesĀ and backed by a first-of-its-kindĀ Lifetime Jet WarrantyĀ for regular users, Hot Tub Serum is designed to make spa care simpler while protecting the equipment you've invested in — for water that stays clear, soft, and fresh with less work.
