Description

The Hot Tub Serum Cleaning Kit is a complete, do-it-yourself spa-cleaning system in one box. It packages the two products behind Hot Tub Serum's Total Clean System — the Total Cleanse plumbing purge and the weekly Total Maintenance — along with a Turbo Cleaning Mitt for the shell and cover, so you have everything you need to purge, deep-clean, and maintain your hot tub without piecing products together.

A truly clean hot tub takes two things most owners never do together: purging the hidden biofilm out of the plumbing, and then keeping it out week to week. Do only the first and the buildup slowly returns; do only the second and you're maintaining on top of gunk that's already there. This kit handles both in the right order, and gives you the mitt to make scrubbing the freshly loosened grime off the shell easy.

It's designed so anyone can do a complete spa cleaning in an afternoon — purge and deep clean in a couple of hours, then coast on weekly maintenance for months. It's the simplest way to get your spa genuinely clean and keep it that way.

Pro Tip: This kit is the ideal starting point for a new spa or a fresh season. If you've just bought a spa, are opening one back up, or have never purged your plumbing, start here: the Total Cleanse resets the pipes, the mitt makes the shell spotless, and the Total Maintenance keeps it that way — establishing the clean baseline that makes ongoing care easy.

Hot Tub Serum®

What's in the Box
  • 1 x Hot Tub Serum Total Cleanse (2 oz gel) — Step 1: the biofilm purge that flushes sludge from your plumbing and jets
  • 1 x Hot Tub Serum Total Maintenance (16 oz) — Step 2: the weekly water care that keeps biofilm from returning
  • 1 x Turbo Cleaning Mitt — for wiping down the spa shell and cover
Key Features
  • Complete clean in one kit — purge, deep clean, and maintain, all in one box
  • Two-step Total Clean System — Total Cleanse to remove biofilm, Total Maintenance to keep it out
  • Includes a Turbo Cleaning Mitt — makes scrubbing the shell and cover easy
  • Do it in an afternoon — a full spa cleaning in a couple of hours, no pro needed
  • Months of maintenance — the 16 oz Total Maintenance covers weekly upkeep long after the purge
  • Works with every system — compatible with chlorine, bromine, salt, biguanide, and mineral
How It Works

The kit follows the logic of a proper deep clean, in order. Step 1 — Total Cleanse is added to the existing water and circulated through the jets, where its foaming action breaks the biofilm loose from inside the plumbing; you'll see brown scum surface as the gunk is pulled out. As the spa drains, the Turbo Cleaning Mitt makes it easy to wipe that loosened grime off the shell before it dries. Step 2 — Total Maintenance is then added weekly to the fresh fill, keeping bacteria from re-establishing in the now-clean plumbing.

Together, the two products cover what no single product can: one removes existing buildup, the other prevents its return. Both are compatible with your sanitizer and work alongside it — Total Maintenance is a supplement to your sanitizer, not a replacement, so you always keep an EPA-approved sanitizer at proper levels.

Pro Tip: Scrub the shell while it's draining, not after. As the purged water drains out, the loosened biofilm can dry and stick to the shell — and it's much harder to remove once it does. Use the Turbo Mitt to wipe the surfaces down as the water level drops, working top to bottom, and the whole job stays quick and easy.

Directions for Use

Balance and sanitizer note: after refilling, balance the water — total alkalinity 100–180 ppm, pH 7.4–7.6, calcium hardness 150–400 ppm — and always maintain an EPA-approved sanitizer.

Step 1 — Purge & Deep Clean (Total Cleanse)

  1. With the filter(s) left in place, add 1 level teaspoon of Total Cleanse per 100 gallons of the spa's current water.
  2. Open the air controls and run the jet pump(s) on high for 15–20 minutes. Foaming and brown scum are normal; watch that the foam doesn't overflow.
  3. If a lot of scum is still releasing, run the jets on high for another 20 minutes.
  4. Drain the spa. As it drains, use the Turbo Cleaning Mitt to wipe the loosened gunk off the shell (top down) before it dries.
  5. Rinse the surfaces, clean or replace the filter cartridge(s), and reinstall them.

Step 2 — Refill & Maintain (Total Maintenance)

  1. Refill with fresh water, balance the water, and re-establish your sanitizer.
  2. Add 1 fl oz of Total Maintenance per 100 gallons, then repeat weekly (same day each week). A small amount of foaming is normal.
  3. Test your water weekly and rinse your filter regularly.

Pro Tip: Don't forget to clean the filter between the two steps. During the purge, the filter catches everything the Total Cleanse breaks loose, so it comes out loaded with gunk. Cleaning it thoroughly (or dropping in a fresh cartridge) before you refill means you're not putting all that captured biofilm right back into your clean water and starting the maintenance phase behind.

This kit is the starter version of the Total Clean System: once you've used the Total Cleanse and worked through the 16 oz Total Maintenance, simply reorder the individual products — Total Cleanse every 4–6 months for purging, and Total Maintenance (available in larger sizes) for ongoing weekly upkeep. For swim spas, use Swim Spa Serum for the weekly step instead.

Hot Tub Serum® Brand FAQs

What is Hot Tub Serum, and how is it different from other spa chemicals?

Hot Tub Serum is an EPA-registered water care line built around one idea most spa chemicals ignore: cleaning and protecting the inside of your spa's plumbing. Its products prevent and remove biofilm— the bacterial sludge that builds up in pipes and jets and keeps re-contaminating your water. Made by Serum Watercare, the line is registered with the EPA in all 50 states.

Does Hot Tub Serum replace my sanitizer?

No. Hot Tub Serum works along side your sanitizer, not instead of it. You still need to maintain an EPA-approved sanitizer (chlorine, bromine, salt, or a mineral system) at proper levels. Serum keeps your plumbing clean and makes your sanitizer more effective — so most owners end up using less of their other chemicals — but a sanitizer is always required.

What is biofilm, and why does it matter in a hot tub?

Biofilm is a slimy layer of bacteria that forms inside spa plumbing where you can't see or reach it. It protects the bacteria within it from your sanitizer, which is why an untreated spa can stay cloudy, smelly, or sanitizer-hungry no matter how carefully you dose. Because it hides in the pipes, it keeps coming back until it's addressed at the source — which is exactly what Hot Tub Serum targets.

How does the Hot Tub Serum Total Clean System work?

It's a simple two-step regimen. First,Total Cleanse is added before a drain-and-refill to purge existing biofilm and gunk out of the plumbing. Then, once the spa is refilled,Total Maintenance is added weekly to keep that biofilm from ever coming back. Purge to clean, maintain to keep it clean.

Is Hot Tub Serum compatible with my sanitizer system?

Yes. Hot Tub Serum is compatible with all sanitizing systems — chlorine, bromine, salt water generators, biguanide, and mineral systems such as The Frog®, @ease®, and Nature2®. It's also unaffected by pH swings, cyanuric acid, and common oxidizers, so it keeps working even when your water chemistry drifts.

Is there a warranty benefit to using Hot Tub Serum?

Serum Watercare offers a Lifetime Jet Warranty for owners who use Total Maintenance weekly through an authorized dealer's auto-ship program. Because jet failure is often caused by scale and water-chemistry buildup that Serum helps prevent, the program covers replacement of removable jet inserts that fail due to water chemistry. About Hot Tub Serum®

Hot Tub Serum is a water care brand from Serum Watercare, built on a simple insight the rest of the industry overlooked: the biggest threat to clean hot tub water isn't in the water you can see — it's the biofilm hidden inside your plumbing. Where conventional chemicals only treat the water in the shell, Serum's EPA-registered formulas clean and protect the pipes, jets, and internal surfaces where bacterial sludge takes hold.

The result is the Total Clean System: a purge product (Total Cleanse) that scrubs existing biofilm out of the plumbing before a drain-and-refill, and a weekly maintenance product (Total Maintenance) that keeps it from ever returning. Registered with the EPA in all 50 states and backed by a first-of-its-kind Lifetime Jet Warranty for regular users, Hot Tub Serum is designed to make spa care simpler while protecting the equipment you've invested in — for water that stays clear, soft, and fresh with less work.
