Description

Swim Spa Serum is a concentrated weekly water care built specifically for swim spas. It's the same EPA-registered biofilm-prevention technology as Hot Tub Serum Total Maintenance, reformulated at four times the strength so it can treat the much larger water volume of a swim spa cost-effectively — dosed at just 1 ounce per 500 gallons instead of 1 ounce per 100.

Swim spas face the same hidden enemy as hot tubs, only bigger: biofilm, the slimy bacterial layer that forms deep inside the plumbing where your sanitizer can't reach. In a swim spa's large volume and extensive plumbing, that buildup means cloudy water, odors, and constant sanitizer demand. Swim Spa Serum reaches down into the plumbing to prevent that buildup, keeping the whole system clean and making your sanitizer far more effective.

The payoff is a swim spa that stays clear, soft, and fresh with less effort and less chemical — and a formula priced to make maintaining all those gallons practical. A 32 oz bottle lasts about 8 weeks in a typical 2,000-gallon swim spa.

Pro Tip: Swim Spa Serum and regular Total Maintenance are not interchangeable. Swim Spa Serum is 4x concentrated and dosed at 1 oz per 500 gallons — do NOT use it in a standard hot tub, where it will foam heavily. And don't use regular Total Maintenance in a swim spa: at 1 oz per 100 gallons you'd burn through a bottle a month. Match the product to the vessel and both the results and the cost work out right.

What's in the Box
  • 1 x Swim Spa Serum Total Maintenance (32 fl oz bottle; about 8 weeks in a 2,000-gallon swim spa)
Key Features
  • Built for swim spas — formulated for the large water volumes standard maintenance can't cover economically
  • 4x concentrated — dosed at 1 oz per 500 gallons to keep cost down in big systems
  • Prevents biofilm — stops bacterial buildup deep inside swim spa plumbing
  • Boosts your sanitizer — makes chlorine, bromine, or salt work more effectively
  • Reduces chemical use — a more effective sanitizer means less of everything else
  • Works with every system — compatible with chlorine, bromine, salt, biguanide, and mineral
How It Works

The active ingredient is an EPA-registered biocide (a quaternary ammonium compound). Circulated through your swim spa each week, it works deep in the plumbing lines to keep biofilm from establishing on interior surfaces — the pipes, pump, and jets you can't see or scrub. It works in part by reducing the water's surface tension, making it very difficult for bacteria to attach and form the protective biofilm slime in the first place, and by removing the food sources bacteria need to multiply.

At the same time, it makes your primary sanitizer more efficient: by keeping bacteria from gaining a foothold, it lets your chlorine, bromine, or salt system do its job with less demand. It's important to understand this is a supplement to your sanitizer, not a sanitizer itself — it helps your sanitizer work rather than replacing it.

Pro Tip: Start a fresh swim spa the right way. Before you first use Swim Spa Serum, run the brand's Total Cleanse to purge existing biofilm, drain and refill, and make sure your filter cartridges are clean or new. Starting with clean plumbing and clean filters lets Swim Spa Serum keep it that way from day one.

Directions for Use

Always add chemicals to water, never water to chemicals. Balance your swim spa water to industry-standard levels — total alkalinity 80–140 ppm, pH 7.4–7.6, and calcium hardness 150–350 ppm — and always maintain an EPA-approved sanitizer at the recommended level.

Startup

  1. Before first use, purge with Total Cleanse, then drain and refill with fresh water. Make sure filter cartridges are installed and are clean or new.
  2. After balancing, shock the water with an EPA-approved sanitizer and establish your sanitizer level.

Weekly Maintenance

  1. With the circulation running, add 1 fl oz per 500 gallons of swim spa water.
  2. Repeat every 7 days, on the same day each week. Do not over-dose.
  3. small amount of foaming is normal. If excessive foaming occurs, reduce the dosage accordingly.
  4. Maintain sufficient sanitizer at all times — do not let it run out. Rinse filter cartridges regularly with pressurized water.

If water becomes cloudy, foamy, discolored, or develops an odor, shock the water and increase your sanitizer level; if poor conditions persist, clean your cartridge filters and, if needed, perform a full Total Cleanse.

Pro Tip: Pick a "Serum day" and stick to it. A weekly dose on the same day keeps biofilm from ever getting a foothold in all that plumbing. In a 2,000-gallon swim spa, that's about 4 ounces a week — so one 32 oz bottle covers roughly two months. Tie it to your weekly water test and it becomes an effortless habit.

Hot Tub Serum® Brand FAQs

What is Hot Tub Serum, and how is it different from other spa chemicals?

Hot Tub Serum is an EPA-registered water care line built around one idea most spa chemicals ignore: cleaning and protecting the inside of your spa's plumbing. Its products prevent and remove biofilm— the bacterial sludge that builds up in pipes and jets and keeps re-contaminating your water. Made by Serum Watercare, the line is registered with the EPA in all 50 states.

Does Hot Tub Serum replace my sanitizer?

No. Hot Tub Serum works along side your sanitizer, not instead of it. You still need to maintain an EPA-approved sanitizer (chlorine, bromine, salt, or a mineral system) at proper levels. Serum keeps your plumbing clean and makes your sanitizer more effective — so most owners end up using less of their other chemicals — but a sanitizer is always required.

What is biofilm, and why does it matter in a hot tub?

Biofilm is a slimy layer of bacteria that forms inside spa plumbing where you can't see or reach it. It protects the bacteria within it from your sanitizer, which is why an untreated spa can stay cloudy, smelly, or sanitizer-hungry no matter how carefully you dose. Because it hides in the pipes, it keeps coming back until it's addressed at the source — which is exactly what Hot Tub Serum targets.

How does the Hot Tub Serum Total Clean System work?

It's a simple two-step regimen. First,Total Cleanse is added before a drain-and-refill to purge existing biofilm and gunk out of the plumbing. Then, once the spa is refilled,Total Maintenance is added weekly to keep that biofilm from ever coming back. Purge to clean, maintain to keep it clean.

Is Hot Tub Serum compatible with my sanitizer system?

Yes. Hot Tub Serum is compatible with all sanitizing systems — chlorine, bromine, salt water generators, biguanide, and mineral systems such as The Frog®, @ease®, and Nature2®. It's also unaffected by pH swings, cyanuric acid, and common oxidizers, so it keeps working even when your water chemistry drifts.

Is there a warranty benefit to using Hot Tub Serum?

Serum Watercare offers a Lifetime Jet Warranty for owners who use Total Maintenance weekly through an authorized dealer's auto-ship program. Because jet failure is often caused by scale and water-chemistry buildup that Serum helps prevent, the program covers replacement of removable jet inserts that fail due to water chemistry. About Hot Tub Serum®

Hot Tub Serum is a water care brand from Serum Watercare, built on a simple insight the rest of the industry overlooked: the biggest threat to clean hot tub water isn't in the water you can see — it's the biofilm hidden inside your plumbing. Where conventional chemicals only treat the water in the shell, Serum's EPA-registered formulas clean and protect the pipes, jets, and internal surfaces where bacterial sludge takes hold.

The result is the Total Clean System: a purge product (Total Cleanse) that scrubs existing biofilm out of the plumbing before a drain-and-refill, and a weekly maintenance product (Total Maintenance) that keeps it from ever returning. Registered with the EPA in all 50 states and backed by a first-of-its-kind Lifetime Jet Warranty for regular users, Hot Tub Serum is designed to make spa care simpler while protecting the equipment you've invested in — for water that stays clear, soft, and fresh with less work.
