Description

MeggieĀ is part of Hot Tub Serum's line ofĀ oil-absorbing sponges — a simple, chemical-free way to keep your spa water clean. ItĀ floats on the surfaceĀ and quietly soaks up the body oils, lotions, makeup, and other contaminants bathers leave behind, capturing themĀ before they clog your filter or form scum linesĀ on the shell.

Those oils are the root of some of the most common spa annoyances. Left in the water, they collect at the surface and along the waterline, creating that greasyĀ scum ring, and they get pulled into your filter where they clog the pleats and shorten cartridge life. A floating absorber intercepts them at the surface — exactly where they gather — so they never reach the shell or the filter in the first place.

Crafted with a premiumĀ 3D air mesh skinĀ that maximizes surface contact for superior absorption, Meggie isĀ reusable and washable, delivering powerful cleaning action with no chemicals and no hassle. It's one of the easiest upgrades you can make to your maintenance routine: just drop it in and let it work.

Pro Tip:Ā A sponge and an enzyme are a great team. Meggie physically pulls oils off the surface, while a weekly enzyme or a product like Hot Tub Serum Total Maintenance works on the organics throughout the water. Using both means less oil reaching your filter from either direction — cleaner water, a cleaner shell, and longer filter life.

How It Works

Oils areĀ lighter than water, so the body oils, lotions, and cosmetics that come off bathers naturally rise and collect at theĀ water's surface. Meggie floats right there in that oily layer, and itsĀ 3D air mesh materialĀ draws those oils in and holds them — pulling them out of the water instead of letting them drift to the walls or get sucked into the filter.

The more surface the sponge contacts, the more it absorbs, which is why the air-mesh design matters. As it works, itĀ lightens the load on your filterĀ (oils are one of the hardest things for a cartridge to handle) and keeps the waterline clean. When it's absorbed all it can hold, you simply wash it out and put it back to work.

Pro Tip: Keep it out of the water while people are soaking. Toss Meggie inaftereveryone gets out — that's when the fresh oils and lotions are floating on the surface waiting to be absorbed, and it won't get bumped, squeezed, or end up behind someone's back. Set it on the cover or a shelf during use, then drop it back in when you're done.

Directions for Use
  1. For the best start, begin withĀ fresh water — ideally after purging with Hot Tub Serum Total Cleanse and refilling.
  2. Place Meggie in the spa and allow it toĀ float freelyĀ on the water's surface. If your spa has a textured shell and the sponge includes a suction cup, secure it inside the filter opening where there's a smooth surface, or hook it to the filter cover.
  3. Keep the spongeĀ away from the suction and filter intakeĀ so it isn't pulled against the screen.
  4. After each soak,Ā sweep it around the waterlineĀ to pick up any freshly introduced oils and lotions.
  5. When the sponge darkens or absorption slows,Ā wash it — rinse thoroughly, or machine-wash with no bleach or soap — then return it to the water.

Pro Tip: Keep a spare and rotate them. Having a second sponge means one is always ready while the other is drying after a wash, so you're never without oil protection in the water. Sweep the waterline with it right before washing to grab the last of the scum, and it comes out of the laundry ready to go again.

Hot Tub SerumĀ® Brand FAQs

What is Hot Tub Serum, and how is it different from other spa chemicals?

Hot Tub Serum is an EPA-registered water care line built around one idea most spa chemicals ignore: cleaning and protecting the inside of your spa's plumbing. Its products prevent and remove biofilm— the bacterial sludge that builds up in pipes and jets and keeps re-contaminating your water. Made by Serum Watercare, the line is registered with the EPA in all 50 states.

Does Hot Tub Serum replace my sanitizer?

No. Hot Tub Serum works along side your sanitizer, not instead of it. You still need to maintain an EPA-approved sanitizer (chlorine, bromine, salt, or a mineral system) at proper levels. Serum keeps your plumbing clean and makes your sanitizer more effective — so most owners end up using less of their other chemicals — but a sanitizer is always required.

What is biofilm, and why does it matter in a hot tub?

Biofilm is a slimy layer of bacteria that forms inside spa plumbing where you can't see or reach it. It protects the bacteria within it from your sanitizer, which is why an untreated spa can stay cloudy, smelly, or sanitizer-hungry no matter how carefully you dose. Because it hides in the pipes, it keeps coming back until it's addressed at the source — which is exactly what Hot Tub Serum targets.

How does the Hot Tub Serum Total Clean System work?

It's a simple two-step regimen. First,Total Cleanse is added before a drain-and-refill to purge existing biofilm and gunk out of the plumbing. Then, once the spa is refilled,Total Maintenance is added weekly to keep that biofilm from ever coming back. Purge to clean, maintain to keep it clean.

Is Hot Tub Serum compatible with my sanitizer system?

Yes. Hot Tub Serum is compatible with all sanitizing systems — chlorine, bromine, salt water generators, biguanide, and mineral systems such as The FrogĀ®, @easeĀ®, and Nature2Ā®. It's also unaffected by pH swings, cyanuric acid, and common oxidizers, so it keeps working even when your water chemistry drifts.

Is there a warranty benefit to using Hot Tub Serum?

Serum Watercare offers a Lifetime Jet Warranty for owners who use Total Maintenance weekly through an authorized dealer's auto-ship program. Because jet failure is often caused by scale and water-chemistry buildup that Serum helps prevent, the program covers replacement of removable jet inserts that fail due to water chemistry. Ask us about enrolling.

About Hot Tub SerumĀ®

Hot Tub Serum is a water care brand fromĀ Serum Watercare, built on a simple insight the rest of the industry overlooked: the biggest threat to clean hot tub water isn't in the water you can see — it's theĀ biofilm hidden inside your plumbing. Where conventional chemicals only treat the water in the shell, Serum's EPA-registered formulas clean and protect the pipes, jets, and internal surfaces where bacterial sludge takes hold.

The result is theĀ Total Clean System: a purge product (Total Cleanse) that scrubs existing biofilm out of the plumbing before a drain-and-refill, and a weekly maintenance product (Total Maintenance) that keeps it from ever returning. Registered with the EPA inĀ all 50 statesĀ and backed by a first-of-its-kindĀ Lifetime Jet WarrantyĀ for regular users, Hot Tub Serum is designed to make spa care simpler while protecting the equipment you've invested in — for water that stays clear, soft, and fresh with less work.
