And any lubricant, including silicone, attracts and holds grit — which then sits between the gasket and the sealing surface and holds them apart, defeating the very seal you were trying to improve. Installation

1. Turn the spa off at the breaker before opening the filter compartment.
2. Remove the filter lid and lift the old cartridge straight out. Let it drain as you lift — a loaded 100 sq ft cartridge holds a great deal of water and debris, and pulling it fast dumps that load back into the well.
3. Inspect both sealing surfaces in the housing. Wipe them clean and check that they are smooth and free of scale, grit, and nicks. A gasket can only seal against what it is pressed into.
4. Wipe the molded gaskets on the new cartridge with a clean cloth. Install them dry — no lubricant of any kind.
