The Unicel C-6430AM is a 30 square foot replacement spa filter cartridge built for Hot Spring, Hot Spot, and Solana spas — and it carries something the standard cartridge does not. The AM in the part number stands for antimicrobial. This cartridge is manufactured with Reemay filtration fabric treated with Microban antimicrobial protection, built into the fibers rather than sprayed onto the surface.
Here is why that matters. A spa filter is the warmest, wettest, most nutrient-rich real estate in your entire hot tub. Every gallon of water in the spa passes through those pleats, and every bit of body oil, lotion, sweat, and organic debris the water carries gets deposited there. Between cleanings, that trapped organic load becomes a feeding ground — bacteria colonize the media, form biofilm in the folds of the pleats, and that biofilm is what produces the musty smell in a filter that looks clean, drives up sanitizer demand, and restricts flow long before the cartridge is actually worn out.
Microban protection works continuously inside the media to inhibit the growth of odor-causing and stain-causing bacteria on the filter itself. It does not sanitize your water — your chlorine, bromine, or salt system still does that job, and this cartridge does not change your chemistry routine. What it does is keep the filter from becoming the reservoir that works against your sanitizer. Filters stay fresher between cleanings, resist the odor and discoloration that make owners replace cartridges early, and hold their performance longer over the life of the media.
